CBI director told us they will leave case, couldn't meet Amit Shah: RG Kar victim’s parents

The parents of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor from RG Kar Medical College, who was raped and murdered while on night duty at the hospital on August 9 last year, have raised serious concerns over the role of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the ongoing probe. During a recent visit to Delhi, they met top officials of the agency and alleged that the investigation lacks independence and clarity.

The family met CBI Director Praveen Sood, along with the Joint Director and Inspector General at the agency’s Delhi headquarters. According to the victim’s father, the meeting lasted for around 30 minutes, during which they were given what he described as “bogus and ridiculous replies.” He said the CBI was not providing satisfactory answers, especially concerning key forensic reports like those from FLCL and MIB.

He further claimed that the CBI Director himself expressed a willingness to withdraw from the case. “The CBI Director himself is saying that they will leave the case,” the father said after returning to Kolkata. He added that since the investigation was ordered by the court, he now intends to inform the court about the development.

The parents alleged that the CBI’s investigation closely mirrors the version presented by the Kolkata Police and lacks an independent line of inquiry. The father stated that he had lost faith in both the local police and the central agency, describing the meeting with CBI officials as a “complete waste of time.”

The family had also requested a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, they were reportedly told that the minister would only be available on a later date. Unable to stay in Delhi for that long, the couple returned to Kolkata without being able to meet him.
